East Fife Mental Health Befriending Project

About
LINK

The project was set up in 1996 as a result of a demand from service users and workers who felt there was a gap in service provision that could be met by a befriending service.

The Project aims to recruit, train, and support volunteers who will be "matched" to people within the community, who are isolated due to mental health problems.

Although referrals to the service come from Health and Social Work Department professionals, LINK is independent with its own policies, procedures and Management Committee.

In 2003, LINK set up a similar scheme for young people, supported by the Adolescent Unit, Stratheden.  The aim is the same, but this scheme supports people who are the age between 12 and 18.
