East Fife Mental Health Befriending Project

Volunteer
 RECRUITMENT

The Project, depending on committed volunteers, is keen to recruit at all times.

What form does our training take?

Initial training consists of  six two hourly sessions, with an evaluation at the finish. All volunteers are SCRO checked, because they will be working with vulnerable people and will have extensive training regarding the needs and expectations of being a volunteer befriender.

Confidentiality and boundaries are stressed to be of the utmost importance. We also cover an overview of mental health issues, the befriending process - roles, tasks, boundaries, skills and approach required, etc, problem-solving and anticipating potential difficulties in befriending relationships, befriending adolescents and their special needs.

We ensure that volunteers understand the Project's policies and procedures, equal opportunites, racial equality and awareness, and we provide an opportunity for potential volunteers to meet with established ones, for a question and answer session.

In addition to formal introductory training, we have social events for volunteers and their befriendees.

One to one supervision, from the Project Co-ordinator, occurs at least every three weeks, but usually more, depending upon the specific needs of the volunteer.

The Project welcomes volunteers from all walks of life and from all sections of the community.
